Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital is a national leader in patient safety, according to an independent study by the influential Leapfrog Group. Methodist Hospital received an “A” grade for patient safety in the 2012 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Scores.
The Hospital Safety Score examines preventable harm and medical errors to patients, using 26 measures of publicly available federal patient safety data from 2009-2011. More than 2,600 hospitals nationally were scored in the Leapfrog analysis. Methodist Hospital was one of nine Twin Cities hospitals to receive the highest grade.
“Leapfrog’s primary mission is to create a more transparent health care system, where consumers can access the information they need to make critical decisions about where to seek care,” said Keith Reissaus, board chair of The Leapfrog Group. “Leapfrog is unbiased in telling the whole truth about how hospitals are doing,”
While there are several other hospital ratings in the market – many of which use Leapfrog data for their calculations – the Hospital Safety Score is unique in that it is offered free to the public, along with a full analysis of the data and methodology used to calculate each individual hospital’s Hospital Safety Score. The Hospital Safety Score relies on the advice of the nation’s foremost patient safety experts, whose participation is a voluntary contribution to Leapfrog’s nonprofit mission.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent, national not-for-profit organization founded more than a decade ago by the nation’s leading employers and private healthcare experts. To view the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Scores and methodology, visit http://www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.
The Leapfrog award follows another honor for Park Nicollet. In November, 11 Park Nicollet Clinics were named Top Clinics by Consumer Reports.
