Common conditions

This section includes conditions that can be evaluated and treated by Alexander Center professionals.

Chronic motor tic

Chronic motor tics are uncontrollable, repetitive movements or vocal noises.

Symptoms

  • Repetitive blinking
  • Facial grimacing
  • Repetitive movement of limbs or head
  • Repetitive vocal sounds or throat clearing

Tests, treatment

Tics can be assessed during an office visit, which will include the doctor taking a history of symptoms and performing medical and neurological examinations. Unless the tic is significantly disruptive, it usually is not treated. Severe cases can be treated with medicine.
