Common conditions

This section includes conditions that can be evaluated and treated by Alexander Center professionals.

Psychophysiological disorders

Psychophysiological disorders and psychosomatic disorders are conditions where emotional states create physical symptoms. For example, if people are nervous or anxious, they may feel nauseated, sick to their stomach or have diarrhea.

Psychophysiological disorders can occur as symptoms in any number of systems or organs throughout the body, such as skin, eyes and digestive system.

Treatment

Treatment depends on the type of psychophysiological disorder. Physical symptoms will be treated, and emotional aspects also will be addressed. Stress management and relaxation techniques are specifically useful.
