Common conditions

This section includes conditions that can be evaluated and treated by Alexander Center professionals.

Written expression disorders

Children with written expression disorder have trouble putting thoughts and ideas down in writing. Despite having average or above average intelligence, they consistently struggle with writing. This becomes more apparent in later grades, as students are often required to express themselves in writing.

Symptoms

  • Poor handwriting
  • Poor spelling
  • Difficulty organizing thoughts and words on paper
  • Poor pencil or pen grip
  • Writing slowly
  • Poor grammar

Tests, treatment

Reviewing academic progress with your child’s teacher is the best way to identify a problem with writing ability. If a professional assessment determines your child has a written expression disorder, we offer specialized education that encourages writing skills.
