Academic tutoring

Private tutoring has been recommended for my child. Can you help?

What are the time commitments?

We ask that you initially sign up for eight sessions. You will work with your assigned tutor to decide the number of sessions per week, time and location.

How do I get started?

Call 952-993-2583.

Evaluations, assessments

Does insurance cover evaluations at Alexander Center?

Coverage for center services varies between insurance providers. We strongly recommend checking with your insurance company to see if evaluations at Alexander Center are included.

Learning disabilities

My child is bright, but is not making academic progress and seems to be getting further behind in academic areas. Could there be a disability interfering with learning?

The characteristics of a learning disability include difficulty processing information and severely underachieving related to ability. An evaluation for a learning disability includes assessing cognitive ability, academic achievement, and receptive and expressive language abilities. If children are not making academic progress and reports indicate they are not working at their potential, an evaluation for a learning disability is recommended.

Will the cost of an academic evaluation be covered under my insurance plan?

Academic assessment is billed fee-for-service. Check with your insurance provider, as most plans do not cover the cost of an academic assessment.

Speech and language

When are speech and language services available?

7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, depending on availability.

How long are speech and language treatment sessions?

They range in duration from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

How long will my child participate in speech and language therapy?

This depends on your child’s needs; however, therapy is discontinued when one or more of the following criteria are met.
1. Your child has met his or her goals.
2. Your child has ceased to make progress toward his or her goals.
3. Your child’s reassessment indicates age-appropriate communication skills.

Medical services

Do children need to take medication for ADHD on weekends?

Medication usage should be determined by parents and doctors on a case-by-case basis.

What if my child has side effects from medication?
