Tips to avoid irritants
You can follow a few simple steps to avoid skin irritants that may trigger itching and rashes.
-
When bathing, minimize use of soap or use a moisturizing or soap-free cleanser. Avoid bath oils and bubble baths.
-
Wear lightweight, soft, nonscratchy clothes.
-
Protect your skin from contact with harsh chemicals and substances to which you are allergic. Wear nonlatex gloves and protective clothing when possible.
-
Be careful with other substances that may cause a reaction, such as metals, cosmetics, dyes and any products that contain perfumes or fragrances.
-
Do not apply medicated creams to your skin without talking to your doctor. Some ingredients in medications applied to the skin can cause allergic reactions, such as neomycin, an ingredient in antibiotic creams.
-
Avoid hot tubs.
