Avoiding inhaled allergens
Here are just a few things you can do to reduce allergens in your home.
- Put allergy-free covers on your mattresses, comforters and pillows to help reduce dust and dust mites in the bedding.
- Dust and vacuum regularly (avoid doing this yourself if dust is a trigger).
- Keep pets out of the bedroom at all times. (If possible, keep pets out of all living areas of your home.)
- Do not use feather pillows or down comforters.
- Take a quick bath or shower before bed to rinse off any pollen or other allergens.
- If you do not have central air conditioning, install a window air conditioner during warm seasons to avoid the need for open windows (and more pollen from outdoors) and to help reduce humidity.
- Do not hang clothes to dry outside.
- Do not use humidifiers or vaporizers in the bedroom.
- Use an artificial Christmas tree.
