In recent years, obesity has increased in every state in the United States. More than half of all adults are considered overweight or obese. Bariatric surgery, or weight-loss surgery, is the best option for people who have morbid obesity – defined as a body mass index of greater than 40.

Many health problems are related to morbid obesity. Patients who complete bariatric surgery can improve or resolve many dangerous health conditions. 

• High cholesterol is improved by 70 percent or more.
• Type 2 diabetes is resolved by 77 percent.
• High blood pressure is resolved by 62 percent.
• Sleep apnea is resolved by 86 percent.
