Research

Jane Brattain Breast Center is dedicated to learning and expanding knowledge through research. Our staff comprises doctors and nurses who conduct research and pursue expertise in treating breast cancer. Additionally, we partner with Park Nicollet Cancer Center’s  oncology research program and the University of Minnesota to design, conduct and participate in breast cancer-related research for the benefit of our patients.

Current research studies
Current, ongoing clinical research studies include the following.
  • Effects of zoledronic acid (Zometa®) and physical activity on bone density in women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer
  • Predictors of lymphedema following breast cancer surgery
  • Axillary recurrence rate following sentinel lymph node dissection for breast cancer

Past research studies

Jane Brattain Breast Center has conducted research studies that have advanced development and understanding of the following.
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy procedure
  • Breast cancer risk assessment
  • Advanced practice nursing care
  • Symptom management
  • Treatment decision-making
  • Young women’s breast cancer experience
  • Care of families with young children whose parent has breast cancer

Patients involved in research studies receive high-quality care, have the opportunity to be the first to benefit from a new treatment and can help improve breast cancer treatments for others.

Our articles can be found in many journals, including:

  • Annals of Surgical Oncology
  • Cancer Practice
  • Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing
