Genetic testing
Genetic testing checks for changes, called mutations, in certain genes, which can increase a woman’s chance for getting breast cancer. Only five percent to 10 percent of women who have breast cancer have a genetic mutation. Women with certain gene mutations may be three times to seven times more likely to develop breast cancer.
Genetic testing has benefits and risks, and should be discussed with a doctor or genetic counselor. Park Nicollet Cancer Center offers genetic risk assessment screening to determine the likelihood of a hereditary component of cancer in your family.
