| Screening mammograms |
|
If you have a screening mammogram, you will receive a letter notifying you of your results within seven to 10 days of your mammogram. Occasionally, a radiologist needs to clarify findings on the mammogram, and you may be asked to return for more views or procedures soon after your initial screening. Follow-up is common, and does not necessarily mean that cancer is suspected. A follow-up exam may be scheduled three months to six months after your mammogram. “Mammogram After-care and Results” flyer |
| Diagnostic mammograms |
| Diagnostic mammograms are scheduled for patients who have known abnormalities or conditions, such as a lump, dimpling or nipple discharge, or for the first year following breast cancer diagnosis or breast surgery. If you have a diagnostic mammogram, a radiologist reviews films before you leave, which reduces your chance of being called back for more views. |
| Breast ultrasound |
| Results of a breast ultrasound will be reviewed with you before you leave the center. |
| Biopsy |
|
In most cases, Jane Brattain Breast Center will notify patients of their image-guided breast biopsy. Every attempt will be made to reach the patient by telephone within two working days of the biopsy. The doctor who ordered the procedure also will have access to the results as they become available. If the doctor who ordered your procedure is outside the Park Nicollet system, he or she will notify you of your results. |
