Reconstructive surgery
Some women who need a mastectomy also choose to have breast reconstruction. If you decide to undergo reconstruction, your surgeon will refer you to a plastic surgeon. Breast reconstruction can be done at the time of your mastectomy or at a later date.
Various procedures are available to reconstruct the breast. Some operations use implants, while others use your own tissue. Skin, muscle and fat can be moved to the chest from your lower abdomen. Further surgery or tattooing can be done to create a nipple and areola.
Talk to your surgeon for more information, or call Park Nicollet Plastic Surgery at 952-993-3504.
