Breast self-exams

Breast self-exams allow you to become familiar with the feel, shape and size of your breasts, making it easier to notice changes if they occur. Breast self-exams should be done every month, no matter what your age.

The best time to do a breast self-exam is about one week after the start of your period, when breasts are less tender and swollen. After menopause, check your breasts on the first day of each month. If you no longer are having periods, choose a day that is easy to remember, such as the first day of the month.
