Support groups and classes

Several support groups and classes are available to women with breast cancer and their families through Park Nicollet Cancer Center. All groups meet at the Meadowbrook Building, Methodist Hospital campus, unless otherwise noted. To register or for more information, call 952-993-5700. 

Support groups and classes
Title Description Date and time
Breast cancer  Women diagnosed with breast cancer support one another by discussing self-image, positive attitudes, intimacy and relationships. Spouses or significant others are invited to join the group on alternate sessions.

7 p.m., first Wednesday of every month (women only) 7 p.m., third Wednesday of the month (couples)

The Continuing Journey Recurring or advanced cancer may involve more complex dynamics than those associated with an initial cancer diagnosis. Issues addressed include communication, maintaining hopefulness, anger, relaxation, living in the present and nutrition. This group helps meet the needs of patients, family and friends.  5:30 p.m., first and third Tuesday of every month
Reach to Recovery Trained volunteers who have had breast cancer help guide and support women who are newly diagnosed. Sessions are ongoing
Fabulous Faces Women with breast cancer learn how to enhance their appearance while undergoing cancer treatment.  6:30 to 8 p.m., third Tuesday, alternative months
Post-treatment seminar  These seminars help meet the needs of people who have completed, or soon will complete, cancer treatment. Each seminar covers different topics and provides time to meet with professionals and people who are at similar points in their journey with cancer. 6:30 to 8 p.m., second Wednesday, alternate months
Caregivers seminar Family members and friends of cancer patients focus on the importance of self-care by discussing ways to reduce stress, mobilize resources and identify options for taking care of themselves in the midst of a family crisis. 6:30 p.m., fourth Wednesday of every month
Lymphedema People who have had lymph nodes surgically removed from under their arms will learn about causes, signs and symptoms of lymphedema (swelling), and lifestyle precautions that can decrease risk of developing the condition.  12:30 to 1:30 p.m., second Wednesday, alternate months
