The 12th Orthopedic Update information
|
The number one reason patients in the United States visit doctors is for musculoskeletal conditions. As people are living longer, conditions such as arthritis, degenerative joint disease, fractures, joint replacements and osteoporosis will continue to greatly impact daily life. The cost of care, quality of life and need for associated procedures, injections and prevention education will be critical issues to address. Primary care physicians play a major role in helping people with musculoskeletal conditions as they often are the first point of contact in the health care system. Primary care physicians need to take the lead in promoting cost-effective prevention of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders, appropriately referring these patients, co-managing their conditions and monitoring their progress.
Orthopedic Update brings together experts with daily clinical experience to provide informative presentations and focused discussions, along with ample opportunity for hands-on demonstrations and practice. Emphasis is on clinical topics applicable in everyday practice. With new and valuable insights to diagnose, examine, treat and manage musculoskeletal conditions, primary care physicians can ensure more timely and effective patient-centered care. The conference includes time for questions and direct interaction with faculty as well as use of an interactive automated response system (ARS).
Following this course, participants should be able to:
-
demonstrate competency in reading X-rays, splinting and casting, and providing basic fracture management to better treat patients in primary care and improve outcomes
-
evaluate orthopedic treatment options to provide the best possible patient-centered care
-
describe new and emerging orthopedic topics relevant to quality patient care, such as minimally invasive procedures
-
identify common orthopedic problems affecting athletes, female patients and older adults
