Program objectives

Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions, and diabetes prevention is a national public health concern. As a result, more health care professionals are becoming involved in caring for people with diabetes. This half-day program provides a brief overview of diabetes for those who need an introduction or quick refresher. Attendees will learn the basics of diabetes care for adults through lectures and hands-on learning activities. Through increased awareness about diabetes, attendees will be better equipped to care for adult patients with diabetes.

By attending this program, participants will:

  • develop a better understanding of medical and nutrition guidelines for people with diabetes
  • experience hands-on application of products that people with diabetes use: glucose meter, insulin syringes and pens, food plans and food labels
  • increase confidence to care for patients with diabetes and answer their questions

Continuing education credits

This continuing education program is designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing requirements for 5.4 contact hours. It is the responsibility of each participant to determine if the program meets the criteria for licensure or recertification for their discipline. Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.
