Program objectives

The prevention, diagnosis and management of diabetes is a growing concern as the number of people affected by diabetes rises. To help you meet this challenge, we offer Team Management of Diabetes. This program is a practical opportunity for health care professionals to add to their diabetes knowledge base.

Three full days of lectures, case studies and hands-on learning activities help you learn the latest advances in diabetes management, care, education and practice. Whether you need an overall refresher, have recently added diabetes care to your responsibilities or are preparing for the CDE exam, this program provides a comprehensive foundation.

New information, plus continually updated presentations and activities, keep this program fresh, even for experienced professionals. Past attendees may find it beneficial to complete the program again, to stay current.

This conference is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in diabetes management, care and education. Following this program, you will be able to:

  • describe the pathophysiology of all types of diabetes, the diagnostic criteria and a systematic method of management and care, including the chronic complications of diabetes
  • list diabetes oral and injectable medications and identify principles for starting, advancing and combining therapies
  • identify the goals for nutrition therapy and describe a food plan using carbohydrate counting
  • experience the daily life challenges of living with diabetes and use self-management tools
  • describe the components of diabetes education, including patient assessment, motivation and goal setting
