Sexual health changes

Sexuality is an important part of your quality of life. Remember that pleasurable, sexual touching always is possible, regardless of your physical health or medical history.

Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation can affect your sexuality in different ways, such as:

  • fatigue
  • decreased sexual desire
  • difficulty in gaining or maintaining an erection (impotence)
  • inability to ejaculate
  • inability to lubricate
  • inability to achieve orgasm
  • changes in body image
  • infertility
  • premature menopause

Before you or your partner begin any form of cancer treatment, discuss potential sexual and reproductive problems with your oncologist.

Learn more about how cancer can affect your sexuality.
