Comparing complementary, alternative medicines
Complementary and alternative medicine therapies are health care practices not considered conventional medicine. Conventional medicine is a term for established and accepted methods practiced by medical doctors.
Many people think their doctor will not want them to try complementary and alternative therapies. It is important for your doctor to know about all treatments you are receiving. Some therapies can interfere with conventional treatments, with potentially negative results. For example, taking certain vitamin supplements during cancer treatment may reduce the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
