Blood tests
Blood tests help determine what is happening to your body, and also help your doctor choose the best way to treat you. Certain types of cancer treatments change your blood. You may need to change your treatment plan if your blood cells are not in balance. Some people require blood transfusions to bring up low blood counts.
Your doctor will conduct the following blood tests. |
White blood cell countWhite blood cells work to combat infections by killing germs and disease. |
Red blood cell countRed blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of the body, and are made in the bone marrow. |
Platelet countPlatelets, and other parts of blood, form clots or scabs to help stop bleeding. |
Tumor markersTumor markers are produced by a cancerous tumor, and can be used to determine if treatment is working. |
