Hospice care does not prolong the life of terminally ill patients, but helps them live with comfort and dignity, surrounded by family and friends and supported by hospice team members at the hospital or at home.
Under the direction of a primary doctor, a team of health professionals and specially trained volunteers provide a coordinated care plan with patients and families. The hospice team includes doctors, nurses, home health aides, chaplains, social workers, grief counselors, music therapists, massage therapists, volunteers, physical therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and dietitians.
Hospice is provided to more than 300 oncology patients annually. Care is available to patients who reside within a 30-mile radius of Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn. A nurse is on call 24 hours a day to respond to patient emergencies. Grief support is provided to hospice patients’ families and friends.
Additional resources include grief support groups and books in our stores.
