A1C test

The A1C test is a laboratory test that measures your average blood glucose (sugar) level over three to four months. The value is reported as a percentage.

Your A1C is the best way to tell how your treatment plan is working overall. The target goal is 7 percent or less. When at least half of your self-tested blood glucose levels are within the target range, your A1C will usually be in target, too. For example, if your average blood glucose level is 150, your A1C will be about seven percent.

Ideally, you should have an A1C test every three to four months.

If your A1C is: your average blood glucose level is:
4 percent 60
5 percent 90
6 percent 120
7 percent 150
8 percent 180
9 percent 210
10 percent 240
11 percent 270
12 percent 300
13 percent 330
