Foot-care tips

  • Wear shoes at all times.
  • Avoid soaking your feet on a daily basis. Lengthy soaking can dry out feet and cause cracks in the skin that can lead to infection. Do not soak your feet if you have neuropathy (nerve damage).
  • Avoid using chemical treatments, sharp instruments, sandpaper or pumice to treat calluses, corns or other foot problems.
  • Keep your feet protected from extreme heat or cold.
  • Avoid heating pads or hot water bottles on your feet.
  • Cross your legs at the ankle, not your knee.
  • Break in a new pair of shoes by wearing them for short periods of time — not all day.
