Always carry glucose tablets or a quick form of carbohydrate with you. This is a good habit even when you are not traveling. Carry some healthy, nonperishable foods with you in your pocket, purse, car or carry-on bag for unexpected situations.
-
Always wear medical ID. Carry a card in your wallet, and wear a bracelet or necklace bearing medical identification.
-
Wear comfortable shoes. Traveling often involves a lot of walking, which can be hard on your feet if you are not wearing comfortable shoes. Wear shoes that give your toes room to wiggle, and be sure to check your feet for blisters or sores at the end of the day.
-
Carry a medical kit. A well-equipped medical kit containing bandages, antiseptic solution, antibiotic ointment, a decongestant, motion sickness pills and sunscreen can be very useful when you are on vacation.
-
Pay special attention to your blood glucose levels. If you are more active or less active than usual, you may need to adjust your medication or carbohydrate intake.
