Heart education
Park Nicollet has a variety of resources to help manage heart disease. Talk to your health care provider to learn more.
Living with Heart Disease class
Park Nicollet can help you take the steps you need to stay as healthy as possible and prevent coronary artery disease from progressing. Topics in this one-session class include an overview of heart disease, identifying coronary artery disease risk factors, medications and developing a personal action plan. See the class schedule or call 952-993-3454 to request more information or to register for a class.
Another Chance: Cholesterol Connections
This two-part series is for people diagnosed with coronary artery disease (CAD) and those who are at risk of developing it. You will learn about risk factors for heart disease, blood lipid values and beneficial lifestyle changes. The first session focuses on dietary choices; the second on using those choices through label-reading, meal planning, cooking and eating away from home. See class schedule.
Heart Disease Prevention clinic
Individual coronary artery disease risk assessment, risk factor treatment, prevention and education are provided by a Park Nicollet Heart Clinic preventive medicine specialist, a nurse educator and a dietitian.
Interventions include lifestyle management strategies; drug therapies to treat abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels, high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, and to assist with smoking cessation. This clinic provides consultation for patients who have multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease or risk factors that have not responded to standard treatment. Patients are referred by their primary care doctor or other health care provider. Call 952-993-3246 for more information.
Heart and Vascular Lecture Series
Monthly Heart and Vascular Lecture Series (formerly Cardiac Club) meetings provide current information on topics of interest to people who have had heart attacks, open heart surgery or other conditions affecting the heart.
While education is an important part of each meeting, sessions also provide time to meet others who have experienced heart problems. Family and friends are welcome to attend. See more details
Nutrition services
Eating a healthy diet is important to your heart health. Park Nicollet's registered dieticians can assist with low-fat, low-cholesterol diets, weight management and meal planning. Find out about more about a nutrition consultation or heart-healthy cooking classes.
Diabetes education
People with diabetes are very susceptible to coronary artery disease. It is especially important for people with diabetes to control their blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol. International Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet offers specialized diabetes education, treatment and research opportunities.
