Preventing a heart attack
Understanding your risk is the first step in preventing and detecting heart disease. Park Nicollet Heart and Vascular Center offers several screening and prevention services that can help reduce your risk.
Controlling your risk of developing heart disease
Scientists continue to investigate the possible causes of coronary artery disease. Although there does not seem to be one specific cause, certain characteristics, called risk factors, have been linked to coronary artery disease.
Risk factors
Your risk of coronary artery disease can be elevated because of genetic factors (men are at higher risk than women) and lifestyle factors.
Heart Scan
A heart scan, or coronary artery calcium scoring, is a fast, painless screening test that assesses heart attack risk using the latest multi-slice computerized tomography (CT) imaging technology. Learn more about heart scans.
