Vascular malformations

Vascular malformationsVascular malformations are birthmarks or growths that are made up of abnormal clusters of blood vessels. They are congenital, which means they are present at birth, but they may not be visible until weeks or even years after birth. Usually, vascular malformations will grow as the child grows. Vascular malformations can create problems with the normal flow of blood.

Risk factors

Researchers do not know what causes vascular malformations.

Symptoms

Vascular malformations may appear as discolorations or growths on the skin. Other symptoms depend on the type and location of the malformation.
