The Osteoporosis Center launched community-wide screening and education initiatives at local senior community locations and worksites. HRC staff and physicians began a project to improve the rates of osteoporosis detection and treatment at Park Nicollet Health Services.

Diabetes education attendance increased by nearly 60 percent over 1999, with more than 560 people seen monthly at IDC. New education programs offered in group and individual sessions included Heart Health, Advanced Insulin Management, Senior Group and Dose Adjustment clinics.

Well Advised: A Practical Guide to Everyday Health Decisions, second edition, won a gold medal in the 2000 National Health Information Awards competition.

IDC staff trained more than 150 health care professionals on the implementation of Type 2 Diabetes BASICS. The program teaches participants to simplify the delivery of outcomes-based diabetes education in any setting.

 

Anne Deshler, RN, director, Metro-Minnesota CCOP, served as a member of the National Institutes of Health Adjuvant Breast Treatment Consensus Panel. The panel determined practice recommendations for selecting initial chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal therapy for node-negative and node-positive breast cancers.

Suzann Wancket, Health Education karate instructor, won the women's World Karate Association World Championship for the second time in three years. Wancket teaches karate to children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder at Park Nicollet Alexander Center for Behavioral Development.

The Activity Pyramid family of products led sales for Park Nicollet HealthSource's publishing division for the third year in a row with more than 200,000 units sold.
