More than 7,000 physicians, clinicians and other health professionals participated in 85 continuing medical education conferences, lectures and courses in 2001.

IDC welcomed nearly 1,000 health professionals from 41 states and 11 countries to its professional education programs in 2001.

A new Continuing Medical Education Internet site was constructed in 2001. Health professionals now may access professional education opportunities at parknicollet.com.

National Institutes of Health awarded IDC a contract to provide diabetes care training for 80 American and Canadian study coordinators who will implement the "Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes" (ACCORD) trial. IDC is among the research sites, and its "Type 2 Diabetes BASICS" book will be used by 10,000 study patients.

Park Nicollet HealthSource served as consultants for "Creating Life Balance," a wellness and physical activity program developed for Minnesota Independent School District 191- Burnsville, Eagan and Savage. The program received the Minnesota Council on Physical Activity and Sports 2001 Award of Excellence.

"Minnesota Physician" named EDI one of Minnesota's Health Care Centers of Excellence. A partnership of Methodist Hospital and University of Minnesota Physicians, EDI expanded its program space and increased staff to meet continuously growing patient needs.

To ensure that Park Nicollet diabetes patients receive the best possible care, IDC trained 481 Park Nicollet clinicians in Staged Diabetes Management. Outcomes to date include significant increases in orders for appropriate diabetes tests and examinations, improvements in LDL values, and increased use of diabetes education services.

Ahmed I. Samatar, PhD,
Macalester College, presented "Seek First to Understand," to inform Park Nicollet staff about  Islamic principles in relation to world events.
