Each year, Park Nicollet Institute recognizes outstanding staff contributions that reflect the traditions established by our founders to devote time to research, advance patient care and support ongoing professional education. Congratulations to our 2004 award recipients.

Martha A. Nance, MD, Researcher of the Year


Martha A. Nance, MD, Researcher of the YearBesides treating patients at Park Nicollet, Struthers Parkinson’s Center and Hennepin County Medical Center, Nance, a neurologist and geneticist, is an active writer and researcher. Since joining Park Nicollet in 1997, Nance has published 34 journal articles and several books and chapters. She is currently the principal site investigator for a multicenter National Institutes of Health trial of neuroprotective agents for Parkinson’s disease and several studies related to Huntington’s disease.



David C. Homans, MD, Educator of the Year


David C. Homans, MD, Educator of the YearAs chairman of Park Nicollet’s cardiology program and chief of cardiovascular services, Homans recognizes the importance of continued learning. He has shared his expertise through more than a hundred presentations at universities and medical facilities throughout the country. He has served on the faculty for 13 continuing medical education programs at Park Nicollet, earning consistently high scores on participant evaluations and gaining recognition as an excellent moderator.
