Researcher of the Year

David L. Parker, MD

David Parker, Park Nicollet Occupational Medicine, seeks to understand and improve health and safety practices in occupational settings. Parker is also an active researcher, teacher and author, publishing more than 50 articles, chapters and books. He is the principal investigator for a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-funded machine safety study. This $1.5 million, five-year study is designed to explore the machine safety practices of small machine shops and how they can be improved.

Parker also passionately studies the plight of child labor around the world and uses his talents as a photographer and teacher to create visibility for this issue. In 2005, Parker guest edited the November/December issue of Public Health Reports, co-authoring the articles, “Lead and Neurocognitive Development” and “Child Labor, Gender and Health.”
