Financial assistance frequently asked questions

 1. How do I qualify for the financial assistance program?

Park Nicollet recognizes the financial hardships health care needs can create. If you feel your income is not sufficient to pay for your services at Park Nicollet, you may qualify for our financial assistance program, which is based on your income, assets and family size. See if you may qualify by using our online calculator.

Before applying for our financial assistance program, patients must first apply for and fully use any available governmental assistance. This requirement is so we conserve these funds for people with no other source of payment.

Minnesota offers several health care programs to people who qualify. The following information on Medical Assistance will help you determine possible eligibility. Link to the following pages on the Minnesota Department of Human Services Web site for more information.

If you feel you meet eligibility requirements for Park Nicollet's financial assistance program, complete and mail in the financial assistance application (PDF).

2. How does the program work?

After you have applied and been approved for a discount, Park Nicollet will adjust your account.

3. How long does the approval process take?

The approval process takes about 10 days to 14 days after you provide us with the documents necessary to process your application.

4. Whose income must be included on the application for financial assistance?

If you are married, both spouses' incomes must be included on the application. If you are over age 18 and can be counted as a dependent on your parents' income tax returns, both parents' incomes must be included.

5. Can I apply for financial assistance if I have insurance?

Yes. Any discount you qualify for under the program will be made after we receive payment from your insurance company.

6. What if I already made payments on my account?

Discounts will be made only on any remaining balance. Refunds for prior payments will not be made.

7. Do all services qualify for a discount?

Not all services are eligible for a financial assistance discount. Elective services are an example of the type of services that may be excluded. Other services may also be excluded.

8. How often do I need to apply for the program?

You need to apply for financial assistance every year.

9. If I have some type of governmental aid, such as Medical Assistance, and Park Nicollet is not my primary care provider, can I qualify for financial assistance if I receive out-of-network services?

No. Patients must fully use any governmental benefits available to them before qualifying for financial assistance. You must first change your primary care provider to Park Nicollet to qualify.

If you feel you meet eligibility requirements for Park Nicollet's financial assistance program, complete and mail in the financial assistance application (PDF).
