Most sleep-related tests are covered by medical insurance, but it is best to ask your insurance representative for information about specific coverage. The telephone number should be listed on the back of your insurance card. If a referral is required, contact your primary health care provider.
Charges are based on the procedures performed. We bill sleep studies as an outpatient procedure through Methodist Hospital. Please bring your insurance card the night of your study. For more information, call 952-993-6083 or review additional insurance payment information.
Directions
From Hwy. 100, go west on Excelsior Blvd.; north (right) on Louisiana Ave. S.; and right into the Methodist Hospital and Meadowbrook Building entrance. Park in the Orange Lot. Discounted parking costs $2. Bring your parking ticket to the clinic for validation.
You will need to bring grooming supplies and sleepwear, like pajamas or a night shirt. You also may want to bring a robe, slippers and your own pillow. All bedding is provided, but some patients find it easier to sleep with their own pillows. Bring all the medications you take, as we cannot provide medications for you. If you require or want a bedtime snack, bring one with you.
Overnight sleep studies typically last eight to 10 hours. In some cases, a multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) also is required. An MSLT will extend your stay by an additional 10 hours.
A Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) evaluates your levels of daytime sleepiness. It consists of taking four to five brief naps, spaced two hours apart. It starts shortly after you awaken in the morning.
A television and phone will be available in your room for use. Cell phone use is permitted, but the phone must be turned off during sleep periods. Jacks for Internet access are available in all rooms, but use is restricted to daytime hours.
Appointments for the sleep study, consultation or follow-up with a sleep doctor are scheduled by calling Sleep Disorders Center at 952-993-6083. The sleep study waiting list averages between one and two months. When scheduling, you can ask to be added to the sleep study cancellation list. We will contact you if a new appointment becomes available. Advance notice ranges from several days to only a few hours before the appointment.
Self-referrals are accepted; however, please ask your insurance representative for specific referral and coverage information. If a referral is required, contact your primary health care provider.
