Our child-life specialist

	Our child-life specialist helps parents and children feel comfortable throughout their visit.

In addition to a friendly staff of doctors and nurses, there are others who help make a hospital visit more friendly and comfortable. Our child-life specialist will help parents and children feel prepared and comfortable before and during their visit. She will explain what is happening and answer any questions, using language children will understand and activities, such as art and medical play, to relieve uneasy feelings. 

The child-life specialist provides the following services.

• Support during stressful experiences, such as surgery or a visit to the Methodist Hospital Emergency Center
• Information on how to cope with an upcoming medical procedure or visit to the hospital. She has prepared a series of educational materials  with suggestions and helpful hints on how to make a short visit or longer stay smoother for everyone.
