The unit uses a coordinated team approach, which includes therapists, nurses, doctors and other health care staff to help patients regain their highest level of independence. Registered nurses and nursing assistants offer 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care, coordination of patients’ daily activities and instruction and reinforcement of new skills. Nurses and nursing assistants also provide an essential link between patients, family members, doctors and other team members, guaranteeing continuity of care.
Methodist Hospital staff believes all patients require highly individualized treatment plans which include physical, psychosocial, spiritual, economic and vocational components. Patients and their family members or significant others should play an active role in the care plan with professional team members. Patients can achieve the best possible results by learning about their disability and developing self-management skills through education and training.
