| Occupational therapists help with daily activities, such as getting out of the bathtub. |
Occupational therapy offers evaluation and treatment for patients who have noticed a change in their ability to complete activities of daily living (ADLs) safely and independently. A decrease in ADL independence may be caused by aging or disease processes that affect a person’s physical abilities, cognition and vision.
This decrease in independence often leaves an individual and their family members feeling they may need to adapt their current living situation or not participate in certain activities. Evaluation and treatment will help determine if the patient’s home environment promotes safety and independence goals.
