Pelvic floor dysfunction program

The pelvic floor dysfunction program provides services to male and female patients. Physical therapists with specialized training treat patients with urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, urinary urgency, urinary frequency and fecal incontinence. Therapists also care for pelvic symptoms related to pregnancy (prenatal and postpartum) and men with symptoms associated with prostate disorders. Services include exercises, manual therapy, modalities (physical treatments) and patient education on an outpatient basis.

About our program

Evaluation consists of a pelvic biomechanical assessment and may include an internal and external muscle exam. Intervention may include manual therapy techniques, instruction in an individualized exercise program, assistance with bladder training and scheduling, and education about dietary influences. Biofeedback and electrical stimulation (with use of surface or internal electrodes) are used as appropriate.

Patients are encouraged to seek referral from their medical provider. The provider will perform an examination (possibly including urinalysis and post void residual) to assess the problem. Physical therapy services for pelvic floor dysfunction are covered by most third-party payers, including Medicare.
