Wound care
Our comprehensive wound care services include assessment, direct patient care and education for patients with a wide variety of wound types, including:
-
diabetic foot and leg ulcers
-
pressure ulcers
-
arterial or venous insufficiency wounds
-
minor burns or trauma
-
nonhealing surgical incisions
Care is provided for inpatients and outpatients, following them throughout treatment to provide consistent wound management. Wound closure and teaching patients to change their bandages are the wound clinic’s primary goals.
About our services
An evaluation is completed by a nurse practitioner specializing in wound care and a physical therapist, who work with the referring doctor to develop a personalized care plan, addressing both the wound and its underlying cause.
Leading-edge technology
We use sophisticated technology to provide the best wound care to our patients. Please note: these links will take you to Web sites not connected or related to Park Nicollet. Park Nicollet is not responsible for the information provided on these sites.
-
Circulator boot. Fits over a patient’s leg and provides heartbeat-coordinated pumping action, helping blood flow to the affected area and return to the heart.
-
Enzymatic debridement. Topical medications increase the breakdown of dead tissue in the wound.
-
Infrared. Nonthermal laser infrared light promotes wound healing. It is absorbed into cells, increasing their activity. It also may increase blood flow and help new blood vessels grow.
-
MIST therapy. Low-intensity ultrasound is used to clean wounds and speed healing by debriding, cleansing and removing bacteria.
-
Pneumatic compression. Applied to the foot, ankle and calf, it increases arterial blood flow to the lower limbs.
-
Pulsatile lavage. Cleans and irrigates the wound using pressure-controlled saline and suction.
-
Sharp mechanical debridement. Physical therapists use instruments to clean unhealthy tissue from the wound to aid healing.
-
Total contact casting. A cast is applied to off-load and immobilize foot wounds.
-
Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC). Negative pressure is applied to the wound to promote healing of skin and tissue.
