Speech-language pathologists, also known as speech therapists, assess, diagnose, treat and help improve or prevent disorders in speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, fluency and others.
Speech therapists work with patients who:

cannot produce speech sounds

cannot speak clearly

have speech rhythm and fluency problems (stuttering)

have voice disorders (such as hoarseness from vocal nodules)

have problems understanding and producing language

want to improve communication skills by modifying their accent
