| Videostroboscopy visually magnifies the vocal cords, helping voice disorder professionals identify problems. |
Speech pathology provides evaluation and treatment of children and adults with voice disorders. Common diagnoses include vocal fold (cord) paralysis; vocal fold polyps (benign growths) and hemorrhages (rupture of a blood vessel); laryngeal papilloma (benign growths); presbylaryngis (changes in larynx with age); spasmodic dysphonia (hoarseness); tremor and general dysphonia (intermittent breaks in voice) with common symptoms of loss of vocal range, decreased vocal quality and vocal fatigue. Referrals also are made before surgery to document and clarify diagnosis, and after surgery to plan and implement a vocal rehabilitation plan.
About our program
We provide comprehensive voice assessment and treatment, which may include videostroboscopy, state of the art technology that shows vocal ford vibration when people speak. Find out more about this technology.
Computerized voice measurement also is used for evaluation and treatment. This system measures pitch and loudness, and objectively examines vocal sounds and provides visual feedback on vocal sounds.
We also have expertise in vocal performance arts for those with a performance background. Our team approach involves otolaryngology, neurology, rehabilitative medicine, helpful products and other specialties as necessary.
