Physical changes
After gastric bypass surgery, you can expect to lose about 60 percent to 70 percent of excess weight in 1 year. In addition to weight loss, you may experience other physical changes associated with rapid weight reduction.
Physical changes after surgery
- You may lose hair for several months after surgery, due to rapid weight loss. Your hair will grow back as your weight stabilizes.
- Your food tolerances may change. You may notice that foods you used to enjoy will not appeal to you anymore,
and you may develop tastes for new and different foods. - Many overweight women are infertile, but weight loss can reverse infertility quickly. After surgery, you will need to use some form of birth control to ensure you do not become pregnant until after your weight stabilizes.
- For women, your menstrual cycle may become irregular. It usually returns to normal after your weight stablizes.
