Joan Bagwell grew up in Richfield, Minnesota. After high school, Joan joined the Navy and worked in Labor and Delivery in Newport Rhode Island. It was then that she discovered her passion for medicine and never tired of watching the miracle of birth. She hoped she would be able to work in labor and delivery again after her discharge. After discharging from the Navy, Joan worked as a proof operator in a bank to support her 3 boys. She went back to nursing school and was fortunate to find a position in labor and delivery. After deciding to work toward her Nurse Practitioner Degree, one of the doctor’s she worked with in labor and delivery asked her why she would leave something she was so good at. Joan has cherished this comment. “Í love the opportunity to empower women with their health care needs and feel I am a conduit to their successes” Joan feels working as a Nurse Practitioner has only added to her sense of fulfillment. “…thank you for saving my life…Your talented, sensitive little fingers and tenacity are really a gift for your patients! I am in 4 rounds of chemo and weathering fairly well. Thank you Thank you!“ – Future Breast Cancer Survivor “I would like to commend Joan for her tremendous compassion and service. She recently had to deliver some heartbreaking health news to me. Her empathetic and caring demeanor made the information easier to digest and she mentioned more than once that I could call her with any concerns that I may have. Her clear instructions of what were to happen next left me with no overwhelming questions and I left her office feeling optimistic about the future.” ~patient comment Joan’s main love is her family. Joan cares for her senior parents and is glad she is able to be there when they need her help. Besides her family, Joan enjoys gardening, traveling, biking, knitting, embroidery, and sewing. “I don’t have all the answers, but thankfully, I work with a wonderful and talented group of professionals. Park Nicollet is a wonderful place to work. I am very thankful for the opportunities Park Nicollet has given me.”
