I try to approach each patient with a practical attitude. Having been a surgeon since 1981 I have come to the conclusion that the most important lesson to learn as a surgeon is when not to operate. This may be a conservative philosophy--but fits my approach to caring for people. I have many interests, including traditional areas such as BPH, where in 2002 I was the first in the Twin Cities to do a laser prostatectomy; stone disease and cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testicle and penis. Another subspecialty interest is the treatment of sexual dysfunction in men and women, with particular expertise in Peyronie's disease. Outside of medicine, I love to golf and fish or just spend time with my wife, two daughters, and recently my grandchildren.
