Our practice sees a wide variety of digestive and gastrointestinal disorders: in outpatient management in clinics at HVC, Burnsville, and Maple Grove; in procedures ranging from EGD, capsule endoscopy, and colonoscopy to endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP, to esophageal manometry and Bravo pH testing; and in consultation for hospitalized patients. I see patients at Burnsville, and work weekends in rotation with other NPs at Methodist Hospital.
It is challenging to manage chronic GI disorders, whether structural or functional, but this is the area of GI practice I find most rewarding. Because communication is so vital in treating these conditions, I spend as much time as I can listening, asking questions, and sharing my opinions and recommendations. I try to optimize methods of communication with the patient, particularly using the after visit summary where you can find my recommendations from the visit; MyChart messaging; and phone calls through our nursing staff. My very most favorite time of the day is the time I spend in the visit with patients and there families.
