My Areas of Practice

I specialize in the care of women, teens through menopause.  My practice is a blend of well-woman annual care, problem-solving visits, prenatal care, labor and birth care.

Water birth, unmedicated birth and helping you with self care and healthy pregnancy behaviors is my passion.  I am always supportive of women making informed choices about their care.  I enjoy having the full range of resources available as needed for your birth and utilizing the interventions that are available when appropriate.

Assisting you with a healthy and happy relationship with your new baby is important to me and a big part of that is supporting your pregnancy and post-partum mood changes.  I encourage you to access the many resources that are available in our vibrant childbirth community including prenatal education and movement classes, accessing doula care, lactation support, mom's groups and early childhood family education.

Beyond the childbearing years, I offer bone density education and advice for women in the menopausal years.

Personal

I am a 5th generation Minnesotan and was born at Methodist Hospital.  I grew up in NE Minneapolis and attended Mpls. Edison High School.  During college, I studied abroad in Colombia and it was a life-changing experience.  I learned that though we are all different, we are all so very much the same.  I met my wonderfully supportive husband of 27 years in St. Paul during college and we have 5 amazingly strong and beautiful children who are my pride and joy.  In addition to being my career, midwifery is my passion and my hobby.  My other interests include knitting, gardening and laughing.

I have also become involved in the MN Maternal Mortality Review Committee for the Minnesota Department of Health.  We are working on ways to insure that maternal mortality is accurately reported in our state and reviewing trends that indicate an increase in this problem.  Out of this work, I have become more interested in the problem of perinatal mood disorders and addressing the risk of suicide and homicide that are associated with it.
