Personal

Dr. Locher is from Wausau, Wisconsin. He comes from a medical family with his father and two brothers also being physicians. Dr. Locher graduated from Hahneman Medical College in 1977. He completed his residency at the University of Chicago in 1981 where he earned the Outstanding Senior Resident Award. Dr. Locher then moved to Hibbing, MN where he was the only Obstetrics and Gynecology MD for 16 years. Dr. Locher joined Park Nicollet in 1997. Dr. Locher’s calling in Ob/Gyn came at a Naval hospital in Philadelphia. A sailor brought in his pregnant wife who was having complications. The Obstetricians were able to stabilize her and help her to deliver a healthy baby. “That was a very moving experience and I never really had a doubt about what I was meant to do.” Now Dr. Locher enjoys the miracle of birth and then seeing women come back years later while getting married, starting new carriers, and for some, starting their own families. “I can’t imagine anything more rewarding.” Dr. Locher enjoys all that Ob/Gyn entails from new surgical techniques to simple, but attentive prenatal care. “I love having the potential to help someone who is having children and creating families in the most dramatic fashion.” Dr. Locher volunteers at his church at several different functions from fundraising to helping out in the inner city schools. Like his grandfather and father, he enjoys fishing and the outdoors. Dr. Locher is a family man and enjoys going up north to the family cabin where the entire family gathers. Dr. Locher has played the violin for most of his life and has a black belt in Martial Arts. Dr. Locher has been married since 1972 and has 4 grown children, 3 boys and 1 girl. He has one son in the Navy and a poodle named Rocky.
