Julie Rice has more than 25 years experience as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in Obstetrics and Women’s Health and more than 30 years experience as an RN. Julie received her B.A. in Nursing from St. Catherine’s University, with areas of concentrated study in Psychology and Fine Arts. As an undergraduate, she was accepted to SPAN, a program affiliated with the University of Minnesota, designed for student international travel and cross-culture study. Julie traveled to the Fiji Islands where she studied traditional childbearing and maternal-child health practices. After graduation Julie worked as an RN in Labor and Delivery at St. John’s Hospital, St. Paul and Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis. In 1983 Julie completed her Certification as an Ob-Gyn Nurse Practitioner through Planned Parenthood and affiliations with the University of Minnesota. Julie worked at Planned Parenthood of Minnesota and Boynton Clinic Student Health Services before joining Park Nicollet in 1985.
In addition to her clinical practice at Park Nicollet, Julie expanded the Prevent Program, educating pregnant women at risk for premature labor to minimize potential risks of delivery and measures to respond and cope in the event of premature labor/delivery. Her additional contributions include being a member of the advisory board for Complementary Health Care, facilitator for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program, ICSI Committees on Premature Labor Management and Prenatal Education. Her previous volunteer opportunities include Helping Hand Clinic in St. Paul and Mother Baby Chemical Health Program. Julie was co-founder, Chair and Co Chair of the Ob Gyn Nurse Practitioner Interest Group, participating in Health Legislation and Professional Continuing Education.
Throughout her professional career, Julie’s approach with patients is thorough, integrating all factors in the individual’s life impacting current or long-term health and wellness. Julie’s focus is to work with health concerns and optimize your health potential with emphasis on preventive care, inviting you to be an active and involved participant in your health care. When Julie is not working she loves the outdoors. “Nature has been a great source of learning about living life. In addition to it’s wisdom, I have found great comfort from nature in all Seasons.” Julie has hiked Isle Royale, Lake Superior Hiking Trail, Tetons and the Himalaya Mountains. Together with her husband John, they have taught sea kayaking and Leave No Trace outdoor principles. In 2008, she successfully completed her fourth marathon. Her most recent adventure was snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. Julie lives in St. Paul with her husband John. Together, they have one son, two daughters a dog and two cats.
