My Areas of Practice

I am a Masters Psychotherapist/Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapist for the Park Nicollet Behavioral Health Department embedded in the MED/PEDS department of the Park Nicollet Specialty Clinic in Maple Grove. I work with patients from ages 11 years-old to 101 years-old. My specialties include Mood Disorders (i.e. Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar), Grief/Loss, Gender Services, LGBTQ individuals and families, Trauma, Women’s Issues, and Eating Disorders. I also work with patients who live with chronic medical illnesses: Cancer Disorders, Chronic Fatigue, Pain Disorders, and Parkinson's. I also work with Phase of Life challenges including patients' own aging and the changing needs of aging parents. My education and experience enables me to educate and assist patients to develop the skills and the confidence to manage the problems affecting their lives.

I am also a Behavioral Sleep Therapist practicing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy –Insomnia, CBT-I treating insomnia and its underlying causes – thoughts (cognitions), emotions and behaviors (habits) that may co-occur with other sleep disorders, other mental health conditions, and/or medical condition(s) in adolescents and adults; and I help children as young as 8 to adults with parasomnias: (i.e. Night Terrors, Nightmares and general anxiety about sleeping).

Since 1999, as a Bilingual (Spanish/English) psychotherapist, I have worked in diverse settings: a Latino Mental Health clinic, Community Mental Health clinics in South Minneapolis and in Southwestern Minnesota, Park Nicollet Melrose Institute; and Regions Hospital ER Crisis Social Work Unit.

My philosophy as a clinician is to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients where presence, connection, deep listening, reflection, trust, and gratitude are essential components for healing to occur. I am very honored to practice in the Park Nicollet/Health Partners system.

Personal

I am grateful to be a clinical mental health practitioner at Park Nicollet working to enhance the lives by helping them to understand themselves, their challenges and reinforcing their strengths. Truly I have been enriched in knowledge and experience, by listening to patients tell their personal stories. I enjoy biking, nature photography, walking in the outdoors, gardening, watching Vikings and Gopher football, taking my niece to the Children's Museum & the Science Museum and attending my nephew's choir concerts, and listening to MPR.
