My Areas of Practice

I am Masters Therapist and Behavioral Sleep Therapist for the Park Nicollet Pulmonary and Sleep Clinic I as a Behavioral Sleep Therapist I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy –I[nsomnia]: which treats insomnia and its underlying causes – thoughts (cognitions), emotions and behaviors (habits). Since 1999 I have been working as a Bilingual (English/Spanish) psychotherapist in many specialties which help to address other mental health problems which may co-occur with sleep problems or may standalone. My experience enables me to educate and assist patients to develop the skills and the confidence to manage their sleep and/or other problems affecting their lives. My patients currently includes adults, senior adults, and some adolescent patients, more women than men, with a diagnosis of insomnia as a primary diagnosis or co-occurring with one or more than one of the following: another sleep disorder, mental health condition, medical condition(s) (i.e. diabetes, fibromyalgia, cancer, heart problems, thyroid problems, fibromyalgia) and/or chronic pain, significant life stressors, and aging.

I have worked in diverse settings:  including working bilingually in a Latino Mental Health clinic, in St. Paul, working in a Community Mental Health clinic in South Minneapolis, working in a HealthPartners clinic, working in a Community Mental Health clinic in Southwestern Minnesota, working in Park Nicollet/Melrose Institute; and working in the ER at Regions Hospital in downtown St. Paul.

Personal

I am grateful to be returning to Park Nicollet and honored to be a clinical mental health practitioner working to enhance the lives by helping them to understand themselves, their challenges and reinforcing their strengths. Truly I have been enriched in knowledge and experience, by listening to patients tell their personal stories. I enjoy photography, nature, gardening, watching Viking and Gopher football, reading the Sunday NY Times, and listening to MPR.
