Foot examination
| People with diabetes can develop nerve damage (neuropathy) that often affects sensation in the feet. Without the ability to feel, even common foot irritations, such as blisters, can become infected and lead to serious complications. Diabetes experts recommend having your feet examined at least once a year to check for nerve damage. Different devices may be used for this, such as a tuning fork or a monofilament, which is a small wire placed lightly against your skin. Proper foot care, including regular exams, can help you prevent serious infections. |
