Kidney check

Experts agree that kidney health needs to be monitored regularly to detect problems early — key to preventing serious kidney disease.

If not detected and treated early, kidney damage can lead to serious complications. Signs of advancing kidney damage include loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Eventually, kidney failure may occur, bringing a need for dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Your assessment at International Diabetes Center includes a urine test that measures a protein called microalbumin. A positive test indicates some level of kidney damage. If your urine test is positive for microalbumin, we will notify your primary care doctor, who will help you explore treatment options.

Two of the best things you can do for your kidneys are to keep your blood glucose as close to your target range as possible and control your blood pressure. Diabetes experts at International Diabetes Center will support you in achieving these goals.

To schedule an appointment for the diabetes assessment service, call International Diabetes Center at 952-993-3393 or toll-free at 888-825-6315.
